Every year in October the world commemorates Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. We create awareness on baby loss and advocate for improved support systems for bereaved parents. Since 2015, Still A Mum has actively participated in this event through awareness campaigns as well as activities such as our tree planting.
This year, we are going in a new direction. To mark Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) Awareness month, Still A Mum is excited to announce the first ever Still A Mum Awards!
The Still A Mum awards will provide an opportunity to recognize and appreciate both people and organizations that are doing a fantastic job in making a difference in the lives of parents across the country. The awards will also play an important role in improving the healthcare system in Kenya as we honour people, companies, and hospitals doing exceptional work in providing the best, most supportive services to parents.
We will have various categories in which members of the public can nominate people or organizations who they think deserve that award. The nominees will then be judged by our panel and the winners awarded during an awards gala that will be held on the 13th of October. That is, just before Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day on 15th October.
The Still A Mum awards will be our special way of saying thank you to all those who are working tirelessly to create a better world for parents and their babies, and also our way of rallying our greater community to engage with the cause. As the old saying goes, if you want to go fast go alone but if you want to go far go together. We can’t wait to have you all join us in launching this new chapter in our journey.
What’s more, we will also hold two events leading up to the awards gala, one targeting the medical profession and one that will be open to the public. We will cover several topics pertaining to maternal health and also bereavement support. It will be an exciting, fun, and informative weekend!
We will be unveiling the awards website soon where you will get more information about the categories and begin to nominate the outstanding people in your lives who you feel deserve to be honoured. We will be keeping you in the loop here on the blog and across our social media platforms so stay tuned!
